On the 5th of October 2019, Guide Dogs Singapore Ltd (GDS) held their annual flagship White Cane Day Event. This year, it was at Waterway Point and graced by Mr Zainal Sapari, Member of Parliament for Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC.

The event saw over 600 stakeholders coming together to celebrate the abilities and successes of people with visual impairment and participate in the blindfolded activities to gain a better understanding of blindness. The safe space provided by the event also allowed for interaction between the blind and sighted communities.

Many highlights were featured, such as guide dog demonstrations and band performances by our clients with visual impairment. Over $5,500 was raised at the event, which will be used to continue GDS’ training for people with visual impairment so they can live an independent and fulfilling life.

More is still needed, so if you can do your part, please donate at www.giving.sg/gds/wcd2019 (250% tax relief can be given for donations S$10 and above).
